Attribute deep dive
We break down what drove each score so you can weigh trade-offs.
Quality Analysis 100/100
This denim is built to last, featuring a substantial 13.5oz selvedge denim fabric and robust construction details like copper rivets and chain stitched hems, which are strong indicators of long-term wearability. Furthermore, the garment is produced by Studio D'artisan, a highly reputable brand known for its durable, quality Japanese denim.
Comfort Assessment 70/100
The comfort score defaults to 70 because the text provides no specific comfort indicators, such as stretch, soft fibers, or seam construction, focusing instead on the rigid 13.5oz selvedge denim and specialized dyeing process.
Sustainability Impact 80/100
This garment features a strong positive sustainability indicator: the use of natural indigo dye and the specialized "Kyo Kuro" natural black overdye process, which suggests a commitment to traditional, potentially less toxic dyeing methods compared to conventional synthetic dyes.

Garment details

This special offering from the denim pioneers at Studio D'artisan combines the brand's 13.5oz natural indigo denim with a layered over-dye process courtesy of the legendary Kyoto Montsuki dye house. Founded in 1915, the Kyoto Montsuki company has spent generations pursuing the deepest, most consistent black possible with natural dyes. The jeans are initially rope-dyed an indigo color, and are then repeatedly hand-dipped in Kyoto Montsuki's "Kyo Kuro" dye to create a powerful black only achievable with this method. The final product undergoes an additional rinse to further minimize shrinkage and is equipped custom Studio D'artisan detailing.
