Quality Analysis 100/100
This denim is built for the long haul, featuring an exceptionally heavy 18oz fabric weight and robust construction details like chain-stitched hems and hidden back pocket rivets, which significantly enhance structural integrity against daily wear. The use of custom branded iron buttons further suggests a commitment to quality hardware that resists failure.
Comfort Assessment 60/100
This 18oz selvedge denim is woven from 100% cotton, which suggests a rigid, heavyweight fabric with no inherent stretch, potentially limiting mobility and comfort. The jeans are rinsed to remove shrinkage, which is a minor positive for immediate fit consistency.
Sustainability Impact 70/100
This garment provides a strong positive sustainability clue by using cotton that is "Grown, harvested, and woven in Japan," indicating a highly localized, seed-to-stitch production model which reduces transportation emissions and supports local economies. However, the use of a "Custom branded leather patch" introduces a potential negative factor if the leather sourcing lacks traceability or welfare information.

Garment details
Need-to-know info pulled from the retailer’s description, sizing notes, and care callouts.
Grown, harvested, and woven in Japan, this collector's edition denim was originally conceptualized as a passion-project by Samurai Jeans founder Toru Nogami to produce a completely made in Japan denim from seed to stitch. Fittingly named the "Samurai Cotton Project," this 18oz selvedge denim sports a highly-visible slub and nep in the undyed ecru fabric. These truly rare homegrown jeans are rinsed in-house to remove shrinkage, and are presented in the brand's Slim Straight fit complete with a mid-rise and slightly tapered leg. The jeans come packed with symbolism referencing the brand's traditional warrior ethos including special edition iron buttons, jacquard pocket bags, back pocket rivets, and a custom branded leather patch depicting the Samurai from which the brand take its name.
