Quality Analysis 100/100
This Samurai T-shirt is built for the long haul, featuring a heavyweight slub cotton fabric and robust construction details like vintage flat-felled seams and a triple-needle stitched collar, ensuring exceptional resilience against wear. The use of natural cotton thread and specialized Japanese craftsmanship further suggests a commitment to lasting quality.
Comfort Assessment 60/100
This shirt is crafted from heavy slub cotton, which suggests a substantial, potentially rigid feel, though the circular knit construction may offer some inherent flexibility. The vintage flat-felled seams are a positive indicator, as they are generally less bulky than standard seams.
Sustainability Impact 90/100
This garment scores highly because it uses natural dyes derived from Tamba Chestnut skins, which are grown locally in the same area as the cotton, indicating a strong commitment to regional sourcing and reduced chemical impact. Furthermore, the use of natural cotton thread and local manufacturing in Japan (Wakayama and Kyoto) supports lower-impact production.

Garment details
Need-to-know info pulled from the retailer’s description, sizing notes, and care callouts.
Samurai's Heavyweight T-shirts are crafted using thick slub yarn, and sewn with the same level of expertise as the brand's denim. This special collaborative installment pairs with the Shizen Selvedge Denim by using the same set of natural dyes. Translated to "Splash", the Shibuki dye features the same Tamba chestnut dye found in the Kuri variant, with a lighter exposure resulting in a khaki-beige color. Dyed using Kuri Tamba, a dye derived from Tamba Chestnut skins. The chestnuts used to dye this fabric are grown in the same area as the cotton for this series. Crafted in Wakayama, Japan, the shirt is knit on circular machines and sewn with natural cotton thread. Woven using natural slubby cotton, the shirt is finished on a 1960's vintage Union Special for an authentic vintage feel.
